The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine should become a leader in determining the state development priorities. Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement at the General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on Thursday.
The Head of the Parliament stressed that the General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine embodies intellect of Ukraine. "It also demonstrates traditions and confirms the obvious: the Academy is a constant value," he stated.
V.Lytvyn believes that the present and the future of the Academy are of special importance. "It should meet modern challenges and prospects of Ukraine," declared the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. "These issues are interconnected and strategic."
V.Lytvyn deems necessary to adopt new approaches to the role of socio-humanitarian sciences, as neglect for them "gave rise to the disrespect for social issues, human rights and even life." "The role of personality has been degraded. Technocratic approach cost dear to the people," he admitted. In this context, V.Lytvyn mentioned Chornobyl disaster.
According
to the Head of the Parliament, "In the 21st century, development of
the country shall be determined by its people, their conceptual positions,
behavior and deeds." Thus, the Head of the Parliament is convinced that
specialists in social sciences shall take active part in the formation of new
visions and approaches to the state development, overcoming of worldview
crisis, creation of new approaches to the fundamentals of economic and social
policy with consideration of global challenges. "The tasks are too responsible
to be left for politicians or power only", he believes.
V. Lytvyn stated that the authorities demonstrated political orientation for the reforms in Ukraine. He added, "It requires a broad vision of tasks and ways of their achievement." "Here I would like to refer back to the role of social and humanitarian sciences. Firstly, social scientists act as miners, if you will, as they go through this dangerous field, helping the people to understand the prospective risks and benefits", he stated.
V. Lytvyn also called for raising state support of scientific sphere, as science, information and innovation technologies are playing a leading role in the modern world.
